Dangerous phone numbers

Two groups of numbers you shouldn’t call back — premium-rate numbers and numbers that users have reported as dangerous.

Premium-rate numbers (0900) (0)

Numbers starting with 0900 are premium-rate numbers. The charge depends on the service and your provider, and it can be much higher than a normal call. If a number like this shows up in a missed call or in a text asking you to call or reply, don’t respond, and ask your provider about any 0900 charges you don’t recognise.

Reported by users as dangerous (0)

These are reports and ratings from users, not a finding that anyone committed a crime. A number may also have been misused by someone else (spoofing).

We don’t have any reports for numbers in this area yet.

Forward scam texts free of charge to 7726 (Department of Internal Affairs). Report scams to Netsafe (netsafe.org.nz, 0508 638 723) or to the National Cyber Security Centre (ncsc.govt.nz). If you lost money or shared card or bank details, contact your bank straight away on the number on your card. Police take non-emergency reports on 105.
